Changing, moving, going away, these are often words that make you understand what bittersweet means. They are by no means indicators of evil, but letting go and shifting away from the past is no easy act. Leaving a life behind, pausing it for a year, comes with a lot of hurdles that ought to be mastered. So, when it was time for me to pack my suitcases and leave for an eleven month journey, you could say I was, well, excited.
I am an exchange student. I switched continent and now call my new home Texas. At this point, just for academic values, I think I should mention that it is the second largest state in the United States. Only Alaska has more land to offer and weather even less bearable.
Quite a number of students choose to fulfill their academic purposes in a different country at some point. Whether they live as an exchange student, or study abroad whenever they go to college/university. While some things I experience here are only slightly different to things we would consider normal, others are less subtle and need some getting accustomed to.
I can`t take anyone with me, but I`d still enjoy your company as I struggle, live and laugh through this school year on our way to the next step, which might be a year abroad for some of you.
Greetings from the other side of the pond,
